Design and Consultancy Services for Şişli Okmeydanı and Göztepe Training and Research Hospital

HAN Technical Consultancy, Engineering and Architecture Co. Inc. (HAN) has signed a contract with HWP Planungsgesellschaft mbH Germany for the European Investment Bank financed project, Design and Consultancy Services for the two Hospitals; Şişli Okmeydanι Training and Research Hospital and Göztepe Training and Research Hospital in İstanbul, Turkey.
The project was implemented with utilization of a loan which has been agreed upon in between The Government of Turkey (GOT) and International Bank of Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) under the scheme Istanbul Seismic Risk Mitigation and Emergency Preparedness Project (ISMEP) objectives of which are to improve the city of Istanbul’s preparedness for a potential earthquake through enhancing the institutional and technical capacity for disaster management and emergency response, strengthening critical public facilities for earthquake resistance, and supporting measures for better enforcement of building codes and land use plans.
Şişli Okmeydanı Hospital was one of the biggest hospitals in European side of İstanbul that serves 8.000 patients per day. The total estimated surgeries are 48.000 per year and the estimated income budget of the hospital is around 70 Million dollars per year. Göztepe hospital, taking place in the Anatolian side of İstanbul, has also similar importance.
The construction of these new hospitals will not only assist the development of the health services provided in the European and Anatolian sides of İstanbul but also enable uninterrupted services to be provided during the evacuation of the other hospitals in the city that will be retrofitted or demolished and reconstructed.
It is envisaged that the hospital design will conclude with 800 beds at each hospitals that will allow modular and extendable type of construction for the future investment.
Following the preparation and submission to the client; İstanbul Project Coordination Unit (IPCU) of the proposal by HWP Planungsgesellschaft mbH Germany in association with HAN Technical Consultancy, Engineering and Architecture Co. Inc.as the main sub consultant, the proposal was found successful by IPCU and a main services contract between IPCU and HWP was signed on 30th September 2010.
HAN is appointed as the consultant for design phase 1 (data collection), design phase 2 (concept design), design phase 3 (preliminary design), design phase 4 (final design) and design phase 5 (tender documents) of the project.
Subject matter of this contract was the rendering of services consisting architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural and landscape design of two hospitals using base isolation technology without jeopardizing operation of existing hospitals within the same properties. HAN will be responsible from Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Services (MEP), Landscaping, Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Cost Control, Tender Documents and Topographical Survey services.
HAN carried out the detailed designs within its scope of works in accordance with the international standards, applicable EU Legislation and meet the technical requirements and the specific functions of the units as well as the requirements of the Ministry of Health mainly for all the mechanical and electrical designs together with the onsite infrastructural works.
